Wife’s income is 4 times higher than Dr. Taher
In the 13th National Parliament election, Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate for Comilla-11 (Chauddagram) constituency is Central Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher. The wealth of his wife Dr. Habiba Akhter Chowdhury is four times higher than his. This year, his wealth in the income tax return is 1 crore 80 thousand 192 taka and that of his wife is 4 crore 64 lakh 20 thousand 555 taka. From 2011 to 2018, 37 cases were filed against Dr. Taher. 17 cases were withdrawn in 2024 and 2025.
This information has been revealed from the affidavit filed with Dr. Taher’s nomination papers recently on the occasion of the national election. According to the affidavit, the 67-year-old candidate is a doctor and businessman by profession. His movable assets include 51 lakh 8 thousand 224 taka in cash. His wife has 21 lakh 91 thousand 968 taka in her name. In addition, the candidate has assets worth 85 lakh taka in banks and financial institutions, which include bonds, debentures, savings certificates, fixed deposits, gold ornaments, electronic goods and furniture. His wife has assets worth 1 crore 70 lakh taka. Among the immovable assets, the candidate has agricultural and non-agricultural land worth 1 crore taka. His doctor wife has assets worth 5 crore 50 lakh taka including houses, apartments and land.
An examination of Dr. Taher’s 3 election affidavits has shown that in the affidavit for the 9th National Parliament election in 2008, Dr. Taher’s total assets were shown as 1 crore 2 lakh 69 thousand 533 taka in the income tax documents. Later, in the information given in the affidavit during the 11th National Parliament election in 2018, Dr. Taher’s total assets were shown as 1 crore 97 lakh 95 thousand 345 taka in the income tax documents. But in this election, the assets were shown as 1 crore 80 thousand 192 taka. Even in 17 long years, his income could not exceed 2 crores.
