Why did the husband run away after killing his wife, putting the body in a deep freezer
The Kalabagan police station of DMP has arrested the husband Nazrul Islam (59), who brutally killed his wife and fled after putting the body in a deep freezer.
He was arrested in a raid in the Nawabpur Road area under Bangshal police station on Tuesday (October 14) at around 9 pm within 24 hours of filing the case.
The police gave this information at a press conference today, Wednesday afternoon. The press conference was held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Center.
DMP Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud Alam gave details of the incident at the press conference. He said that last Sunday (October 12) at 11 pm, Nazrul Islam returned to his rented flat number 6 (B) in 24 houses located in the 1st lane under Kalabagan police station and found two of the three locks of the flat’s door open. He was agitated by his long-standing suspicions about his wife Taslima Akhter (42) and fears that she was having an affair with a man and taking over her property. Later, around 12 am, he randomly cut off his sleeping wife’s head with a sharp blade. Then, he tied the body with a towel, wrapped it in a bed sheet and a veil and hid it in the refrigerator of the house. Later, he tried to hide the evidence by turning over the blood-stained mattress, cleaning the floor and washing her clothes. The next morning, Nazrul Islam told his elder daughter Nazneen Akhter that their mother had run away with someone else. At that time, Nazneen Akhter saw blood stains on the wall of the house. After that, Nazrul Islam asked his two daughters to come to his grandmother’s house, dropped them at his aunt’s house in the capital’s Adabor and fled in his personal car. Later, suspecting that she was having an affair with a man and taking possession of his property, the victim’s younger brother Naeem Hossain and the victim’s two daughters came to Kalabagan police station at 6:30 pm on October 13 and filed a complaint. Following the complaint, a team from Kalabagan Police Station reached the victim’s flat and broke the lock of the door and entered inside. At one stage of the search, the police opened the deep freezer of the house and took out fish and meat from the top and found the body of Taslima Akhter wrapped in a sheet inside. Later, with the help of the victim’s family members and the CID crime scene team, Kalabagan Police recovered the body from the deep freezer with its hands, feet and face tied. Later, after preparing the autopsy report, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The younger brother of the deceased, Nayeem Hossain, filed a murder case with Kalabagan Police Station that night in connection with this sensational murder.
After filing the case, Kalabagan Police Station analyzed the CCTV footage and with the help of intelligence information and technology, identified the location of the deceased’s husband Md. Nazrul Islam. Later, on Tuesday night at around 9:10 pm, he was arrested in a raid in the Nawabpur Road area of Bangshal Police Station. Later, based on the information given by him, the sharp knife used in the murder was recovered from the cupboard of his house at around 11:30 pm.
Initial interrogation revealed that there was a long-standing marital dispute between Nazrul Islam and Taslima Akhter. Nazrul Islam used to torture his wife mentally and physically continuously on suspicion of an illicit relationship. He even feared that his wife would embezzle his property and bank money. It is believed that this brutal murder was committed out of this extreme suspicion.
Police said that legal action is being taken against the arrested person.
