Whether the DUCSU elections will be held on the 9th will be known today

Whether the DUCSU elections will be held on the 9th will be known today. The appeal against the stay order issued by the High Court suspending the DUCSU elections will be heard at the full bench of the Chief Justice’s Appellate Division today (September 3) at 11 am. Yesterday, Tuesday, Chamber Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division extended the stay order issued by the High Court suspending the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union elections and fixed the hearing date for today at the full bench of the Appellate Division. Earlier, the High Court had stayed the elections until October 30 in response to a writ petition regarding the candidacy of DUCSU candidate BM Fahmida and GS candidate SM Farhad of the Shibir-backed panel. On that day, the lawyer of the Dhaka University authorities filed a written application in the Chamber Court seeking a stay of the High Court’s order. In view of this, the Chamber Court stayed the High Court’s order, removing the obstacle to organizing the DUCSU elections. Later, on Tuesday, the Dhaka University authorities filed a civil appeal against the High Court order. After that, the stay on the High Court order was extended and today, Wednesday, the regular bench of the Appellate Division fixed the hearing date.

On August 28, BM Fahmida Alam, the Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs Secretary of the Left-Jogma-nominated panel of the ‘Invincible 71’, ‘Indomitable 24’ panel, filed the writ petition in the relevant branch of the High Court challenging SM Farhad’s candidacy in the DUCSU elections.
