What the Prisons Department says about Farooq Khan’s Facebook post.
Awami League Presidium member and former Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan is in jail after being arrested in a murder case. A status was posted from his verified Facebook ID on Monday. The status blamed Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
Faruk Khan’s post went viral in an instant. Many questioned how Faruk Khan was using Facebook from prison. Many also suspected that the ID was hacked or someone posted on behalf of Faruk Khan. Now the Prisons Department has expressed its position on the matter.
In a press release issued on Monday, the Prisons Department said, “For your information, it is being informed that a screenshot of a post on the Facebook ID of a person named Faruk Khan was shared on Monday, spreading confusion that it was circulated by former minister Colonel (retd) Faruk Khan, who is detained in prison.” The prison authorities are confirming that such a campaign or running Facebook from prison is not possible. He is currently detained in Dhaka Central Jail Keraniganj.
It further states that since no prisoner in prison has access to a mobile phone, it is not possible for the former minister Faruk Khan to operate the ID mentioned in the prison. However, the prison authorities are not aware of whether the ID named Faruk Khan is being operated by someone else or his relatives. It has requested the law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and take necessary action.
It is worth noting that the post from Faruk Khan’s ID reads, ‘I have come online after trying a lot. The four walls of the prison have made us stand in front of our own selves. I want to say a lot, but I cannot say everything now. I will say this much, I accepted Sheikh Hasina as the leader, but today this is the fate of our party because of her stubbornness. The party should not return to any kind of politics except for a change in the leadership and a cleansing campaign at all levels. I do not want Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League anymore, I want Bangabandhu’s Awami League back. “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu.”
