What the July Referendum Charter says

The National Consensus Commission has submitted its recommendations on the means of implementing the July National Charter to the Principal Adviser to the Interim Government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The Vice-Chairman of the Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, submitted the recommendations to Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday (October 28) afternoon. Muhammad Yunus is the Chairman of the Consensus Commission.
Two clauses have been added to the Referendum Charter, clauses 6 and 7 dealing with referendums. Two clauses have been omitted entirely.

  1. Conduct of Referendum – A referendum shall be held in accordance with this Order at an appropriate time immediately after the issuance of this Order or before the National Assembly elections to be held on the day of the said elections.
  2. Law for holding a referendum – Appropriate legislation shall be enacted by the Election Commission to take necessary measures for holding a referendum.
