What Tasneem Zara said after getting her preferred symbol
Dr. Tasneem Zara, an independent candidate for Dhaka-9 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, has received a football symbol. She collected the symbol from the Dhaka divisional office on Wednesday afternoon (January 21). After collecting the symbol, the independent candidate shared the matter on her verified Facebook page. In a post, she wrote, ‘Overcoming all obstacles, we are contesting the election with the football ⚽️ symbol!’
Later, Dr. Tasneem Zara told reporters, ‘When I was talking to the residents of Dhaka-9 constituency for the past few days, I spoke to many people in Khilgaon, Sabujbag, Mugda police stations. Almost every day, someone or the other would ask what the election symbol is? If they want to support me, which symbol will they see on the ballot paper. Today we got a very clear answer to that question.’
She also said, ‘I am contesting the election with the football symbol in the upcoming National Parliament election. We will start the election campaign from tomorrow. Our campaign will be based on the politics we want to see in the future – the politics of transparency and accountability. I wish everyone prayers and good luck.’
It is worth noting that Tasneem Zara was the Senior Joint Member Secretary of the NCP. She left the party amid controversy over the formation of the NCP’s electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami and like-minded parties in the national elections. She then submitted her nomination papers to contest the elections as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9 constituency.
Last Saturday (January 3), Tasneem Zara’s nomination papers were rejected. The Dhaka District Returning Officer rejected her nomination. Later, on Monday (January 5) afternoon, she applied to the EC to reinstate her candidacy. Then, on January 10, after her candidacy was reinstated in the Appellate Division, Tasneem Zara said that she would like a football brand as her election symbol.
