What Rumin Farhana said after being expelled from BNP

Barrister Rumin Farhana said, ‘Khaleda Zia has played a role in another democratic change that is happening in Bangladesh today, during her lifetime. She brought me into politics. There was no expulsion order against me when I was alive. This order came after her death. If she were alive today, maybe many things would have been different.’ She said these words recently in a talk show on a YouTube channel.
She said, ‘For the past 17 years, especially in the last 15 years, she has consistently spoken for the party, country and people on television talk shows, in parliament and in constituencies. In her words, BNP is a big political party; it is natural to have various kinds of calculations. An election is going to be held in the country after a long time and that is why BNP has reached an alliance and seat agreement with several political parties. BNP may not have had many options.’
She also said, ‘As per the party’s instructions, I have been working in the relevant constituency since 2017. Especially after lawyer Abdul Sattar left for the boat mark, the party clearly informed me that the seat would be given to me and I would have to work there. As the election approached, the party high command suddenly informed me that an alliance was being formed with another party. However, I was not personally informed about this decision.
He said, “The party’s decision may change, but I cannot ignore my commitment to the people of the area. That is why I have decided to participate in the election.” He said, “The people of my area had a clear demand that no candidate be fielded from the alliance this time and a candidate from the paddy field should come. Because there has been no candidate from the paddy field in this seat since 2001. Although lawyer Abdul Sattar was elected from the paddy field in 2018, he was present in parliament for only one day.”
He further said, “In the present times, it is no longer possible to keep people in the dark. Who is in the field, who is not, who picks up the phone in difficult times and who stays at a safe distance, everything is now in front of the eyes of the people. The people did not like the expulsion of nine BNP leaders before the burial of Begum Khaleda Zia on the day of her death.” Regarding the decision to participate in the elections, Rumin Farhana said that she did not take it alone. She reached this decision after discussing with the representatives of 19 unions in her area and taking their opinions. She said, ‘The commitment and responsibility she has towards the people of the area is important to me.’ She said that before the elections, she reviewed 8 to 9 survey reports of various intelligence agencies, party and non-governmental professional organizations. Based on this survey, she decided to vote with the ‘duck’ symbol. Regarding the current situation, Rumin Farhana said, ‘No major chaos has been seen in the area so far. However, the situation will become clearer when the campaign starts from the 22nd.’ He believes that the real picture will be understood after the allocation of symbols on the 21st.
