What Rumin Farhana said about Sheikh Hasina’s death sentence
BNP’s co-international affairs secretary Rumin Farhana has commented that the death sentence of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising is a reflection of the will of the people.
She made this comment recently on a talk show on a private television channel. Rumin Farhana said, ‘If there are conditions before any trial, then questions will be raised about that trial. Trying to stall the trial by fixing a specific time or conditions never brings good results.
Sheikh Hasina’s verdict reflects the will of the people of the country. I am seeing various comments from within and outside the country about this verdict. I am seeing various observations from human rights organizations. David Bergman, who was very vocal during Hasina’s regime.
He also said in his article about Hasina’s verdict that the prosecution had strong evidence.’ He also said, ‘The visibility of the trial around the elections is not the only condition. We have seen that with the visibility of the trial, the elections were held using PR methods, a referendum was held earlier. Various such conditions have been added.
Not only the Awami League, but the Jatiya Party and 14 other parties have been given conditions to ban them. The condition of a level playing field has been given. Among these demands, if the Jatiya Party is not banned, then it is a big question whether those who have raised these demands, including Jamaat, will come to the elections.’ He also commented that the Awami League will benefit the most if the elections are disrupted.
