What is this HMPV virus?
After the coronavirus, the ‘Human Meta Pneumovirus’ or (HMPV) is spreading panic around the world. Like Corona, this virus was first identified in China. The number of people infected with this virus has also increased in other countries of the world with this lung infection.
Scientists claim that HMPV has probably been around for centuries and almost all people have been infected with this virus at least once in their lives.
In 2001, a group of researchers in the Netherlands identified HMPV. But this virus has been spreading among people long before that. Recently, China’s National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention said that they are testing a new protocol for pneumonia patients. After that, people are concerned about HMPV.
In a press conference broadcast on China’s state media CCTV, officials from the Chinese health department said that several common infections have spread during the winter season. People should rely on antiviral drugs to deal with them.
The HMPV infection that has occurred in China at present is a well-known and well-known viral infection, which has been infecting people for the past few hundred years. The HMPV virus has been infecting children in northern China for the past few weeks. Many children have fallen ill as a result. In addition, the number of infections with rhinoviruses, which cause the common cold, has also increased significantly.
“This infection is very common during the winter. It is not new that children are getting infected with this virus. Usually, children get respiratory diseases due to infection with this virus.”
“The HMPV outbreak in China is a completely different phenomenon compared to the corona. The corona virus was a completely new virus. The human body had no immunity to it,” said Jean Carr, another expert at Flinders University.
HMPV is a virus in the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) family. It causes short-term infections. Like RSV, HMPV also occurs during the winter and can spread quickly.
Researchers identified HMPV in 2001 after 21 Dutch children were infected. This virus is often mistaken for RSV. Because the two cases have similar symptoms.
Albert Osthaus of Erasmus Medical University in Romania told DW, “People over the age of five usually have antibodies to HMPV.” He and his colleagues have studied HMPV and found that it has been present in humans for hundreds of years.
Compared to coronaviruses and influenza, HMPV is relatively stable. That means it doesn’t mutate very quickly. When the body’s immune system is weakened, it becomes more contagious.
“The influenza virus mutates very quickly. It’s stable compared to HMPV. We’ve been watching RSV and HMPV for 10-15 years. They’ve changed very little. But there haven’t been any major changes in this virus.”
