What Advisor Asif Mahmud said about the resignation

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Interim Government, has said that his resignation letter will be announced from the Chief Advisor’s office. He said this at a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday (December 10) afternoon.
According to responsible government sources, some senior advisors met with Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus in Jamuna on Tuesday. Usually, the advisors meet every day for lunch. The issue of the resignation of the two advisors came up in the meeting. In the evening, responsible government officials confirmed that Asif Mahmud is resigning today.
Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud, the top advisors of the Interim Government, were advised to resign by mid-September. However, they asked for more time. Meanwhile, Advisor Mahfuz Alam has expressed his interest in staying until the end of the government. In that case, he also said that he will not contest the elections.
Later, in the middle of last month, sources said that the government had again requested the two advisors to resign from their high-level posts. Government-related sources said that many in the advisory council, including those in high-level positions in the interim government, agreed that the two student representatives’ advisors should not remain in the government after the schedule was announced. Whether they hold elections or not, they must resign. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5 last year, an interim government was formed on August 8 under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus. In this government, the three students who led the July mass uprising were given places in the government. Among them, Nahid Islam got the information and broadcasting ministry. Asif Mahmud was first given the labor advisor and later the local government ministry. Mahfuz Alam first became a special assistant to the chief advisor with the rank of advisor.
