We are the cause of the destruction of this planet: Dr. Yunus
Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, said, “We, the human inhabitants, are the cause of the destruction of this planet. We are doing it deliberately. We have chosen a lifestyle that works against the environment. And we justify it with an economic structure. And this economic structure is leading us to destruction.”
He said these things at the UN Climate Conference COP-29 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, at around 1 pm Bangladesh time today, Wednesday.
The chief advisor said, “The climate crisis is intensifying. Our civilization is at serious risk. Because, we continue to promote self-destructive values. We need to mobilize our intellectual, financial and youth power to lay the foundation of a new civilization, a self-preserving and self-empowered civilization.”
He also said, “If we are to survive, we need to build another culture. A different culture needs to be built based on a different lifestyle. It will be based on zero waste. It will limit consumption to what is needed, there will be no waste. And this lifestyle will also be based on zero carbon, which is not fossil fuels, only renewable energy.’
He further said, ‘This will be an economy that will be based primarily on personal zero profit, that is, on social business. It is defined as a non-profit business that solves social and environmental problems. A large part of social business will focus on protecting the environment and humanity.
People’s lives will not only be protected but also qualitatively improved through affordable healthcare and education. This will make it easier for young people to become entrepreneurs. Young people will be prepared through new education for entrepreneurs. Entrepreneur-centered education will replace job-seeking.’
