Video of Chhatra Dal leader holding foreign pistol goes viral

The incident of Anwar Hossain Chhoton, former co-editor of Bogadana Union Chhatra Dal in Feni’s Sonagazi Upazila, going viral with a video of him holding a foreign pistol has created a stir across the district. On Monday (December 22) evening, a video of the Chhatra Dal leader from a fake Facebook ID named ‘Shubh Miyaji’ went viral on social media. Anwar Hossain Chhoton is the son of Abul Khair Tukka of Bogadana Union in the upazila. He served as the former co-editor of the Union Chhatra Dal.
In the video, Chhatra Dal leader Anwar Hossain Chhoton is seen threatening a masked woman inside a room with a foreign pistol, pointing the pistol at her and saying, ‘Here you are. For your evil intentions… I broke it! Whether you want to live or die – you know me! If you say this, I will publish the video. I don’t remember what I said.’
Former member secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal, Nur Alam Sohag, said, ‘Anwar Hossain Choton was the joint general secretary of the former Union Chhatra Dal – it is true. But Chhatra Dal did not allow him to carry out any terrorist activities. I have requested the District Chhatra Dal to take organizational action against him. Along with this, law enforcement agencies should also take action.’
A leader of the Union Jubo Dal, who did not want to be named, said, ‘Since August 5, the local people are fed up with Chhoton’s terrorist activities. I have informed the law enforcement agencies about these matters, but no action has been taken. The party is being defamed because of them.’
Another leader of Purba Upazila Chhatra Dal said, ‘These two, Anwar Hossain Choton and Tarek, are creating anarchy in the local area using the name of Chhatra Dal. But the administration is not taking any action.’ Sonagazi Model Police Station OC Kamrul Islam told us that Chhoton’s viral video is about a month old. However, it has recently spread on social media. The police are trying to arrest him.
