Verdict in three cases of Hasina-Joy-Putul plot corruption today

The verdict in three much-discussed cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of misuse of power to allocate 30 kathas of government land for the Purbachal new city project will be announced today, Thursday (November 27). A total of 47 people, including ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul, have been named as accused in this case.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three separate cases against them on charges of illegally allocating government plots in their names by abusing their power and committing fraud and irregularities for this malicious purpose. After presenting the arguments of the state and the accused, Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-5 set the verdict date for Sunday (November 23). The case will be accepted in the court at around 11 am today and the judge will announce the verdict.
Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul have been absconding since the beginning of these three cases. Former RAJUK member Khurshid Alam is in jail. Sheikh Hasina is an accused in all three cases. Joy and Putul are accused in two separate cases. Expressing hope for exemplary punishment of the accused in the cases, ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Salam told the media, “We have been able to prove the charges of fraud in allocating plots against Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and daughter Saima Wazed Putul and 47 others. We expect the maximum life imprisonment for all the accused.” According to court documents, ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin filed a case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and eight others on January 14 on charges of abusing power to acquire a 10-katha government plot in the Purbachal New Town project. The other accused in the case are Purbi Goldar, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works, former RAJUK Chairman Md. Anisur Rahman Miah’s personal assistant, former RAJUK members Shafi ul Haque, Khurshid Alam, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (Eng.) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (retd.), Deputy Director Nayeb Ali Sharif, Administrative Officer of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works Md. Saiful Islam Sarkar, Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin, Secretary Shahid Ullah Khandaker and former State Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed.
On the same day, ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan filed a second case against Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Sheikh Hasina, including 15 others, on charges of abusing power to take a 10-katha government plot for the Purbachal New Town project. In addition, on January 12, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya filed a third case against Sheikh Hasina and Putul and 16 others in connection with the 10-katha plot fraud in Purbachal. On July 31, the court framed charges in all three cases and ordered the trial to begin. After lengthy hearings, arguments and proceedings, the verdict is set to be announced on Thursday, which will attract the attention of the entire country.
