Vandalized in Chuadanga Awami League office and Sheikh Mujib’s mural

The streets of Chuadanga became chaotic at midnight over a speech by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled in the face of a mass uprising. Students and the public erupted in protests on the main roads of the city. At one stage of the protest, the students and the public, led by the anti-discrimination student movement, vandalized the murals of Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa, the district Awami League office, and destroyed the installation containing the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Chuadanga overnight.

On Wednesday, around 11 pm, the leaders, activists and supporters of the anti-discrimination student movement gathered in front of the Chuadanga Government College. From there, they marched to the District Commissioner’s office premises. They broke the portraits of Sheikh Mujib and Fazilatunnesa Mujib installed in front of the premises with hammers, axes and sticks. Then, they demolished the installation containing the portrait with an excavator. Later, the protesters reached the district Awami League office located at the municipality intersection and destroyed the portrait of Sheikh Mujib. Then they entered the building and vandalized the portraits of Sheikh Hasina and other leaders.

Meanwhile, pictures of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were seen on the main road of the city, spitting and kicking. Then the students and the public demolished the entire front of the first floor of the district Awami League office with an excavator. Then, the mural of Sheikh Mujib installed at the Sadar Upazila Parishad and Zilla Parishad premises under the leadership of the anti-discrimination student movement was also vandalized.

During the protest, the highway shook with various slogans – Jane Jane Khabar De, Mujibabad Kabar De, Delhi Na Dhaka, Dhaka Dhaka, Mujibabad Murdabad, Inqilab Zindabad.

It is learned that this program was initiated out of anger against the announcement of the speech of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a virtual event of the Chhatra League. As part of this program in different districts across the country, murals of Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Hasina, Awami League offices and various establishments were vandalized in Chuadanga.

Meanwhile, when the convener of the Chuadanga District Committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Aslam Hossain Ark, and member secretary Saffatul Islam were asked to comment on this matter, they refused to comment.

However, several leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, without disclosing their names, said, “We want to destroy everything that the fascists have. So that no one in the country is inspired by this fascism anymore. In that vein, we have created graves of Mujib murals in different places in Chuadanga. We will destroy all the memorials of dictatorship. The students and the public are always ready. We have come together to erase the fascist signs. Our movement will continue until justice is established.”

It is worth noting that on August 5 last year, the Chuadanga District Awami League office was partially vandalized by the students and the public. Since then, the office has been almost abandoned. In addition, at that time, the murals of Sheikh Mujib installed at the Chuadanga District Commissioner’s office, Sadar Upazila Parishad and Zilla Parishad premises were also broken and burned. They were completely destroyed by the students and the public at night.
