Uttarakhand devastated by flash floods, 4 people killed
Uttarakhand, India, hit by flash floods. So far, 4 bodies have been recovered in the state’s Uttarkashi district. In addition, more than fifty people, including nine soldiers, are missing. A vast area of Dharali village has been washed away by the heavy rains. More than fifty houses and establishments have been destroyed. Locals fear that several people are buried under the rubble. Roads have also been damaged. Local authorities said that the water of the Kshirganga river overflowed near the hilly area, flooding the surrounding areas. An army camp was swept away by the current in the Harshil area. Rescue operations are underway to search for the missing, including soldiers. Members of the National Disaster Response Team have joined the search for the missing. Continuous rains have been continuing in the states adjacent to the Himalayas in India for several days. The water level of several rivers has crossed the danger mark. Emergency teams from the police, army and disaster response forces like NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in the region. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has sent a 16-member team, with more personnel on standby.
