US may launch military strike on Iran this week
The US military may be ready to launch a military strike on Iran by the end of this week. However, President Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision on the matter. Multiple sources have told CNN.
The sources said that the White House has been informed that the US military may be ready to attack by the weekend after a large gathering of air and naval forces in the Middle East in recent days. However, Trump is personally considering both the arguments for and against the attack. He is also seeking the opinions of advisers and allies.
On Wednesday (February 18), top national security officials met in the White House Situation Room. On the same day, special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner briefed Trump on their indirect talks with Iran. However, it is not clear whether any decision will be made by the weekend.
Last Tuesday, indirect talks between the US and Iran were held in Geneva for three and a half hours with an exchange of notes. The meeting ended without any final resolution. Iran’s chief negotiator said the two sides had agreed on a “guiding principle.” But a US official said many details remained to be discussed. White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt said diplomacy was Trump’s first choice. But the option of military action was also open.
