UP member beats expatriate’s wife in Comilla, marries accused in arbitration

A video of an expatriate’s wife being tied up and beaten on charges of having an illegal relationship in Comilla has gone viral on social media. The victim has accused the woman of being beaten by local UP member Bazlur Rahman. Later, the woman was married to the accused in a local arbitration led by the UP member. The incident took place in Gopalnagar village of Sreepur union number 4 of Chauddagram upazila of the district.
According to local sources, on the night of October 17, locals arrested the wife of expatriate Ratan, who was tortured on charges of having an illegal relationship, and the accused Billal Mia, a resident of the neighboring Tara Pushkaruni village. Later, local UP member Bazlur Rahman beat the woman with a cane. After that, an arbitration was held under his leadership, where the woman was married to the accused.
However, Billal is already married. He has a wife and four daughters in his family. In addition, the abused expatriate’s wife is the mother of two children.
In the viral video, the man arrested on charges of having an immoral relationship was sitting next to her. The UP member was beating the woman with a cane while her hands were tied. At one point, he was seen pulling her hair. At the same time, he was also abusing her. The tortured woman was crying.
In this regard, Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hilal Uddin Ahmed told us that the video of the torture of the expatriate’s wife has come to his attention. The accused UP member is being searched. However, no one has filed any complaint so far. I heard that the matter was resolved locally by getting the two married.
