Uncle punches nephew to death in Chandpur
A nephew was allegedly punched by his uncle due to a family dispute in Matlab Uttar Upazila of Chandpur. The tragic incident took place in the Brahmanchak area of the upazila on Wednesday (July 30) afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Mainuddin Sarkar (45). He is the son of Ruhul Amin Sarkar of the same area. Local sources and police said that Mainuddin Sarkar’s wife Mafia Begum and his uncle Faruk Sarkar’s wife took a loan from an NGO called ‘Bureau Bangladesh’. Initially, the two women started arguing over the installment payment. At one stage, the male members of the two families also got involved in the argument. Then, in a fit of rage, Faruk Sarkar punched his nephew Mainuddin. Mainuddin collapsed on the spot with serious injuries. He was rushed to the Matlab Uttar Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead. The hospital’s emergency department doctor said that there were injury marks on Mainuddin’s face, but no marks were found anywhere else on his body. Initially, it is believed that he died of cardiac arrest. The accused Faruk Sarkar fled the area immediately after the incident. The deceased’s wife, Mansura Begum, said, “My husband used to repair radios, TVs and watches in the market. The family used to run on his income. But my husband was killed in a trivial incident. I want a proper trial for this murder.” Confirming the truth of the incident, Chandpur District Police Spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md. Lutfar Rahman said, “The scene has been inspected. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report. The wife of accused Faruk Sarkar, Mafia Begum, has been detained for questioning.” Matlab Circle Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Khairul Kabir said, “The Matlab North Police recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to the Chandpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.” However, no case has been filed at the police station till the time of writing this report.
