UITS Faculty of Law holds seminar on international law
A seminar titled “Revisiting Article 51 amid Global Conflicts: Insights from Gaza and Ukraine for Security Council Reform” was held at the Moot Court Room of the Faculty of Law of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 11 am. The keynote speaker at the event was Professor Dr. Naqib Muhammad Nasrullah, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Islamic University, Kushtia and Professor of Law, University of Dhaka.
Upon arrival at the event, he was warmly welcomed by Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. M. Rabiul Hossain and later received by Honorable Vice Chancellor of UITS and Chief Guest of the event, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hasan Bhuiyan at his office. A constructive academic exchange of views was held between the Vice Chancellors of both the universities. At the beginning of the seminar, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Rana formally welcomed the keynote speaker and expressed his hope to organize more academic programs in the future.
In the keynote speech, Professor Dr. Naqib Muhammad Nasrullah began his speech by emphasizing world peace and stability as the cornerstone of international relations. He elaborated on the peaceful and non-violent application of the UN Security Council, the scope and misuse of Article 51 of the UN Charter, and the urgent need for Security Council reform, such as the limitation of veto power and the proposal to increase the number of members.
As the chief guest, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of UITS, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hasan Bhuiyan congratulated the esteemed keynote speaker of the seminar, Professor Dr. Nasrullah, for his insightful discussion and highly appreciated the Faculty of Law for organizing this important seminar considering the global context. He expressed his hope that UITS will contribute to more such important active academic research discussions in the future.
In the closing speech of the seminar, the president of the seminar, Honorable Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. M. Rabiul Hossain, highlighted the importance of such discussions on international law and geopolitics for the students. Faiza Ibnat, Lecturer of the Department of Law, skillfully carried out the responsibility of conducting the event. Lecturer Faryal Haque Badhan and Lecturer Md. Rahul Hasan Joy served as members of the organizing committee to make the seminar a success. UITS Faculty of Law looks forward to inviting Professor Dr. Naqib Muhammad Nasrullah again in the future so that students can be enriched by his wisdom and guidance on international law.
