UAE arrests 10 including Bangladeshi for spreading missile attack video
Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, 10 people from various countries, including a Bangladeshi, have been arrested in the United Arab Emirates for posting videos of missile attacks on social media. The country’s state-run media (Emirates News Agency) reported this on Saturday (March 14). The country’s Attorney General Hamad Al Shamsi has ordered urgent trial of the arrested.
The report said that the accused posted misleading and false video clips of missiles on social media, which could pose a threat to national security and social stability.
The investigation found that these videos showed fake scenes of air defense systems repelling attacks, missiles falling to the ground, explosions and attacks created using crowds and artificial intelligence (AI). Some of the videos also tried to make children’s emotions seem like security threats. In addition, the videos falsely claimed that domestic military installations were destroyed or foreign incidents occurred in the UAE.
The country’s public prosecution has already begun questioning the accused and has ordered their detention. He added that any attempt to spread false information or endanger the country’s security and social order using digital media or modern technology will not be tolerated.
Meanwhile, according to information released by the prosecution, the list of accused includes citizens of various countries, including one from Egypt, one from the Philippines, one from Vietnam, one from Pakistan, one from Iran, one from Bangladesh, one from Cameroon, one from Nepal and two from India.
