Two villagers clash while going to BNP procession in Brahmanbaria, 35 injured
At least 35 people were injured in a clash between two villagers while going to a joyous procession organized to mark the BNP’s founding anniversary in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. The clash took place between locals of Syedtula and Uchaliapara villages in the Hospital More area of the upazila from 5 pm to 8:30 pm on Wednesday (September 3). The injured are being treated locally. According to police and local sources, a procession was supposed to be taken out under the leadership of Sarail Upazila BNP General Secretary Nuruzzaman Laskar Topu on the occasion of the 47th founding anniversary of BNP. Party workers and supporters from different places started gathering in separate processions at the Hospital More to participate in the procession. At that time, Mujahid of Syedtula village, a resident of Uchaliapara village and a BNP supporter, collided with a young man who was with Mosharraf. An argument and scuffle broke out between the two men. When Mosharraf tried to stop the fight, Mujahid hit him on the head. As a result of the incident, people from Syedtula and Uchaliapara villages got involved in a clash with indigenous weapons. During the clash, panic spread throughout the area due to chases and counter-chase and pelting of bricks and stones in different parts of the two villages. At least 35 people from both sides were injured in the clash. Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Obaidur Rahman said that after receiving information, the police reached the spot and brought the clash under control. Additional police have been deployed at the spot.
