What was learned about the two trucks of seized documents by the public.
After receiving rumors of burning documents in the secretariat, the administrative heart of the country, the local public seized two trucks carrying old documents of the Barisal Department of Education and Engineering and handed them over to police. Finally, the secret of those old documents has been disclosed.
There had been no secret documents, rather some old documents of the Department of Education and Engineering, Barisal. Shahidul Islam, Executive Engineer of the Department of Education and Engineering, Barisal, confirmed the matter on Sunday.
He said, “Photocopies of different schedules collected since 1992 were kept in the office. After discussions with higher authorities to vacate the room, the papers were sent to the dumping yard in Kaunia for burning. But without the knowledge of the department officials, hired labours instead took them to elsewhere for selling. Suspicious local people seized the two trucks and brought them back with the help of police’.
Shahidul Islam said a decision on the matter would be taken later after discussion with the district administration. He added, ‘There are rules to sell old goods through auction but there are no rules to sell documents through auction’.
Locals at Kagasura Bazar in Charbaria Union of Sadar Upazila intercepted the truckload of goods, mistaking them for secret documents of the Secretariat, earlier on Friday (December 27) night. Later, police returned the two trucks to the Department of Education and Engineering.
Local resident and Sadar Upazila BNP joint convener Ziaul Islam Sabu said that the two trucks were moving suspiciously in the area on Friday night. The locals, who saw a lot of official papers in them, suspected that these were Secretariat documents. Later, they seized the two trucks. But at one stage, it was found that there was nothing in the two trucks except old documents. False propaganda was spread in the name of Secretariat documents.
Kaunia Police Station SI Anisur Rahman, who visited the spot, said that people seized the two trucks in Kagasurar around 7 pm on Friday. Later, officials from the Department of Education Engineering went there. The two trucks were released to them late at night.
Shahidul Islam, Executive Engineer, Department of Education Engineering, Barisal, who arrived at the scene gave a written report and took the two trucks away in presence of police and public representatives. Kaunia Police Station Sub-Inspector said this.
