Two people beaten to death in Sirajganj on suspicion of being cow thieves, 2 arrested
Two people were beaten to death in Sirajganj’s Sadar Upazila on suspicion of being cow thieves. Police have arrested two people in the incident. The incident took place on Sunday (August 3) night in Panchthakuri area of Chongachha union in Sadar upazila. However, the names of the deceased were not immediately known. Sirajganj Naval Police Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam confirmed this information and said that a gang was crossing the Jamuna River by boat at night stealing cows. Sensing the matter, locals took another boat to block their path. Locals saw several cows with their legs tied inside the boat. At that time, the agitated mob thrashed them on suspicion of being thieves. Two people were killed on the spot. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Sirajganj Shaheed Mansur Ali Medical College Hospital. Later, two people were arrested in the incident, Rafiqul Islam said. Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mokhlesur Rahman said, “It has been reported that some people were beaten up on suspicion of being thieves while they were taking cows by boat. However, the incident is under investigation, and efforts are being made to find out what actually happened.”
