Two Indian women arrested with Tk 17 lakh in cash
Customs authorities have arrested two Indian women passport holders with Tk 17 lakh at Benapole check post customs. Check post customs revenue officer Jahangir Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday (December 15) morning. Earlier, Benapole check post customs detained them with the money at around 8 pm yesterday (December 14). The two arrested women are Rina Vaidya (37), wife of Anand Vaidya of Raipur village of Bangaon police station in North 24 Parganas district, India, and Mukti Vaidya (54), wife of deceased Sanwar Shahazi of the same area. Customs revenue officer Jahangir Hossain said that after entering Bangladesh from India yesterday, after completing immigration formalities, Bangladeshis searched their bags at the customs scanning center and seized Tk 1.7 lakh.
During initial interrogation, the two Indian women said that they were bringing the money to Bangladesh in exchange for Tk 1,000. Legal action is being taken against them in this incident. The seized money will be deposited in the government treasury.
