Two children drowned in the water
Two children drowned in separate incidents in Naogaon Manda. In this incident, a child was rescued and admitted to the hospital.
This incident took place in Chakrajapur village of Prasadpur union of upazila and Choyapur of Barshan union on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased are Mariam Khatun (6), daughter of Nazrul Islam of Kalma village of Tanor upazila of Rajshahi and Riya Moni (10), daughter of Sujauddaula of Chakrajapur village of Manda upazila.
Sick Rima Akhter (10) is the daughter of Zahid Hossain of Chakrajapur village.
Locals said that Riya Moni drowned in the canal along with two children of the same age on Sunday afternoon. Later local people recovered his body from the water of the canal.
On the other hand, Maryam Khatun died after drowning in the river next to the house. Rima also drowned while trying to save him. Later local people rescued them, Maryam Khatun died and Rima Akhter was rescued in a sick condition.
Alamgir Hossain, maternal uncle of deceased Maryam Khatun, said that last Thursday his wife Rezia Khatun came to visit our house with her daughter Maryam Khatun and another sister’s daughter Rima Akhter. The accident happened three days after the visit. At that time, people rescued Maryam Akhter and Rima Akhtar from the river water due to the screams of children Raihan and Mahim, but Maryam Akhtar could not be saved. Ailing Rima Akhter was taken to Manda Health Complex and Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital as her condition was critical.
Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mansur Rahman said that since there was no complaint, the dead bodies of the two children were handed over to the family for burial without autopsy.
