Two children die after falling into a hole

Two children tragically died after falling into a water-filled hole in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. Both of them were five years old. The incident took place in Saharbil Union of Chakaria Upazila on Thursday (December 18) afternoon. The two deceased children are Md. Noman, son of Abdul Mabud of Dakshin Para, Ward No. 8 of Saharbil Union of Chakaria Upazila, and Jannatul Ferdous, daughter of Belal Uddin of the same area. Both of them are five years old. Nurush Shafa, grandfather of the deceased Noman, said, “A few days ago, soil was dug from the yard next to the house. A big hole was formed in it. Water accumulated in this hole and a small pond was formed.”
He further said, “Today at around 12 noon, Noman and Jannatul Ferdous were playing next to the hole. While playing, the two suddenly fell into the water-filled hole. The child’s mother Jannatul Ferdous saw the incident from a distance and rescued them with the help of locals. Later, when the two were taken to the local hospital, the doctor on duty declared them dead.” Local UP member Azizul Haque Prakash Sona Mia confirmed the information about the incident and said, ‘I am visiting the scene after hearing about the incident. The matter has been reported to the OC of Chakaria Police Station. A shadow of mourning has fallen over the area following the death of two children who fell into the water-filled hole. Preparations for their burial are underway.’
