Two BNP factions clash in Narsingdi, 1 killed in shooting
One person was killed and at least 5 people were injured in a clash between two BNP groups over dominance in Alokbali of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila.
A clash broke out between Alokbali Union BNP convener Shah Alam Chowdhury and the group of expelled member secretary Abdul Qayyum Miah at around 5 am today (September 18). Tension is prevailing in the area due to the incident.
It is learnt that the deceased, Idon Miah (55), is a resident of Muradnagar village. However, no details are known about the injured. Locals say that, ‘After August 5, 2024, a party division emerged between the two BNP groups over dominance and that division turned into a clash this Thursday morning.’
It is learned that a dispute arose between Alokbali Union BNP convener Shah Alam Chowdhury and Abdul Qayyum Mia, a member secretary of the same committee who was recently expelled for violating party discipline, over the extraction of sand from the river, its occupation and dominance. They also held separate party programs. In the continuation of this dispute, a clash broke out between the two groups. One person died and was taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital after being shot in the clash, and at least 5 others were shot. Narsingdi Additional Police Sujan Chandra Sarkar said, ‘The police are working to find out the details of the incident. Details will be announced later.’
