Tulip was involved in harassing Barrister Arman’s wife.

On August 9, 2016, members of the law enforcement agencies took Barrister Ahmad bin Quasem, son of Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali, from his home. He is also known as Barrister Arman. In 2017, a British journalist questioned Tulip Siddique about Arman’s disappearance. Angered by this, Tulip later allegedly used her power to harass Arman’s wife in Dhaka through the Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies. The British media Financial Times reported this information in a report on Wednesday, citing Barrister Arman.

The Financial Times report said that on November 25, 2017, a journalist from the British media Channel 4 questioned Tulip, the daughter of Sheikh Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana, about the missing Arman. Since Tulip is a British citizen and was an MP at the time, The journalist thought that if he called Sheikh Hasina on this issue, Arman might be released.

The journalist told Tulip, ‘A phone call from you could play a big role in Arman’s release.’ However, Tulip reacted angrily to this request. She said, ‘Is Arman from my parliamentary constituency? Is he a British citizen?’ The journalist replied, ‘Arman is Bangladeshi. His family has repeatedly requested you to do something.’ Tulip retorted, ‘Do you know that I am a British MP and I was born in London?’ The Channel 4 journalist said, ‘But you have deep ties with the Bangladesh government. Your aunt is the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.’ At that moment, Tulip became even angrier and said, ‘What do you mean I am a Bangladeshi politician? I am a British MP. Be careful about calling me a Bangladeshi politician.’ Three days after this conversation, Channel 4 aired the report on the evening of 28 November.

Barrister Arman said that RAB members surrounded his house a few hours before the Channel 4 report was to be broadcast. They ordered his wife to keep quiet and wanted to know who she was in contact with abroad. According to Arman, his wife was interrogated as if she were a terrorist.

The Financial Times reported that Tulip’s reaction angered the Sheikh family and as a result, law enforcement agencies harassed Arman’s family. One of Tulip’s associates said that in December 2017, Tulip sent a letter to the British Foreign Office about Arman. The Financial Times contacted Tulip Siddique and her party, the Labour Party, in this regard. But no one said anything.

It is worth noting that after being missing for eight years, Barrister Arman returned home after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5 last year. At that time, it was learned that he had been kept in Hasina’s secret prison ‘Ainaghar’ until now. Barrister Arman studied in London. He was acting as his father’s lawyer during his trial for war crimes in 2016. He was then disappeared.
