Trump’s Gaza plan amounts to ethnic cleansing: UN
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that Trump’s plan to relocate Palestinians from war-torn Gaza and develop the territory economically amounts to ethnic cleansing.
He was responding to a question from New York Times reporter Farnaz Fasihi about US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza.
The New York Times reporter said that Guterres also said that “Trump’s plan risks making the possibility of a Palestinian state impossible forever.”
The UN Secretary-General made the comments in response to the New York Times’ announcement that Trump would take control of the Gaza Strip at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Earlier, US President Trump said that the United States would “occupy” Gaza and reorganize it under its own control. He said, “This valley, which has become a pile of rubble, will be rebuilt and massive economic development will be achieved, which will create a large number of jobs and housing.”
Meanwhile, Middle Eastern countries have also reacted strongly to Trump’s comments.
His statement has created widespread reactions around the world. In particular, it has increased concerns about the future of the Palestinian people. A long-term solution to the Gaza crisis needs to be found, but analysts say Trump’s announcement will make the situation more complicated.
