Trump’s 2020 election case postponed.
The newly elected 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump. A US court has postponed a case filed against him four years ago. Federal prosecutors announced this information on Friday.
According to the BBC, Donald Trump was sued for interfering in the 2020 presidential election. The hearing date for the case has been postponed.
Regarding the postponement of the case, federal prosecutors told the court on Friday that it would take time to determine how to proceed with the trial of Trump’s unprecedented victory in the recently concluded election. Therefore, a request was made to postpone the date scheduled for the hearing of Trump’s case. Later, District Judge Tanya Chatkan granted the request.
According to the 1970 Judicial Code of the United States, no criminal case can be tried against a sitting president. It is mainly because of this policy that the judge was forced to postpone the hearing date for the case against Trump.
Incidentally, four criminal cases were filed against Donald Trump last year for obstructing voter registration and certification after he lost to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
It is worth noting that in a ruling last July, the US Supreme Court said that former President Donald Trump cannot be tried for anything he did within his constitutional powers as president. However, he can be tried for any personal actions.
After the Supreme Court ruling, the election case against Trump has been in limbo. Legal experts believe that Trump may be getting relief from the trial because of this Supreme Court ruling.
