Trump to meet with Putin

Donald Trump is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin very soon. The British news agency Reuters confirmed this information on Thursday (August 7) citing a post on the social media Truth Social. The US president said that Putin had fruitful discussions with US envoy Steve Witkoff, who is visiting Moscow. He also said that he had informed European allies about the progress in this regard. At the time, Trump also said that he was working to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump made the same statement at a press conference in the Oval Office on Wednesday. However, he did not give any details about where and when Putin might meet. Earlier, the Kremlin gave a vague statement about the meeting between Putin and Witkoff. It also said that Moscow is willing to continue talks with Washington. The US took such an initiative to mediate just before the deadline set by Trump for a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire. It is worth noting that yesterday, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It is believed that there was some discussion in the meeting between Trump’s special envoy and Putin about ending the Russia-Ukraine war and signing a peace agreement. It is expected that a final decision will be made soon to end the war. Otherwise, Trump will announce new sanctions on Russia two days later, i.e. on August 8, as previously announced. After taking office last January, Trump has taken new initiatives to end the Russia-Ukraine war. For this, Witkoff has already met with Putin in Moscow several times. But there has been no significant progress in the talks. Trump has recently expressed his disappointment in public several times regarding this. Trump has also announced sanctions on countries that buy energy from Russia.
