Trump meets in Washington on Gaza issue
US special envoy Steve Witkoff said that President Donald Trump will chair a meeting on Gaza at the White House on Wednesday (August 27). He also said that the United States hopes that Israel’s war will end this year. On the other hand, the US State Department said that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Wednesday (August 27). The meeting will be held at the State Department at 3:15 pm local time. Earlier, Trump promised to quickly end the war in Gaza during the 2024 election campaign. He reiterated that pledge after taking office in January this year, but seven months have passed. However, Trump’s goal is still elusive. After the start of the US president’s second term, there was a ceasefire, which lasted only two months. But then on March 18, when an Israeli attack killed about 400 Palestinians, the ceasefire broke down. In recent weeks, images of starving people, including children, in Gaza have sparked a storm of condemnation around the world, and Israel has come under intense criticism for the growing humanitarian disaster.
