Trump is desperate to take ownership of Gaza

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his surprise plan to take control of the Palestinian blockaded Gaza. Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Sunday local time en route to New Orleans.

Al Jazeera reported this information in a report.

The US president said, ‘The United States is committed to buying the Gaza Strip and taking ownership of it.’

Stating that Gaza should be considered a major real estate site, Trump said, ‘Other countries in the Middle East could also be given the responsibility to rebuild it.’

Trump said, ‘We can also give other countries in the Middle East the responsibility to rebuild some of it. Others can do it under our auspices.’

He said, ‘We are committed to ensuring ownership of it until Hamas is destroyed. Although there is nothing here to bring Hamas back. The place has become a ruin.’

Trump claimed that displaced Palestinians would not want to return to Gaza after implementing his proposal, despite strong reactions from the Palestinian Authority and the international community.

“If we can give them a safe place to live, they will not talk about returning to Gaza,” he said. “They want to return to Gaza because they have no choice. When they have a choice, they will not want to return to Gaza.”

Meanwhile, Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza, called Trump’s latest proposal “absurd.” “Gaza is not a property that can be bought and sold and it is an integral part of our Palestinian land,” Izzat al-Rishek, a member of the organization’s political bureau, said in a statement shared on Telegram.

“Tackling the Palestinian issue with the mentality of a real estate businessman is a recipe for failure,” he said. The Palestinian people will thwart their plans for displacement and exile.’

Earlier, Trump presented his ambitious plan for Gaza after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on February 4.
