Truck driver arrested in Natori road accident that killed 8

Senior Correspondent, Natore: The RAB has arrested the accused truck driver Mohir Uddin, who was killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus in Barai village of Natore. He was arrested from Bamondanga village in Sadar upazila around 10 pm on Wednesday. He will be produced in court today (July 24) afternoon. Additional Superintendent of Police Hafiz Al Asad, commander of RAB-5 Natore camp, said that the truck-microbus collided head-on in the Airmari Bridge area of the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Barai village. A total of eight people, including seven passengers and the driver of the microbus bound for Sirajganj from Kushtia, were killed. After the incident, the truck driver Mohir Uddin went into hiding. Then the truck driver was arrested with the help of information technology. He was later handed over to Bonpara Highway Police Station. Banpara Highway Police Station OC Ismail Hossain said that on Wednesday morning, seven patients from the same family were going to Sirajganj in a microbus from Dharmadaha village in Kushtia under Daulatpur upazila. On the way, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the microbus in the Airmari Bridge area of Baraigram upazila in Natore. Five women died on the spot. Three more people in the microbus were seriously injured and were rescued from the nearby Upazila Health Complex. They were taken for treatment. One died there. And the other two died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. A total of eight people in the microbus, including the driver, died. The deceased were identified as Zahidul Islam (55) and his wife Selina Khatun (50), sister Iti Khatun (88), cousin Anwara Khatun (55), cousin’s wife Anwara Khatun (50), mother-in-law Anjuman Ara Khatun (65) and sister-in-law Seema Khatun (35) and microbus driver Shahabuddin Ahmed (42). Later that night, relatives of the deceased in the road accident filed a case against the truck driver, Nazrul Islam. A case has been filed under the Road Safety Act-2018 at Buraigram Police Station in this regard and the truck driver was arrested in a drive.
