Train derailed in Bhairab, train services on Dhaka-Sylhet-Chittagong route suspended

A bogie of the Dhaka-Chittagong-bound ‘Dhaka Mail-2’ train derailed at Bhairab Bazar Junction in Kishoreganj. Train services on the Dhaka-Sylhet-Chittagong route have been suspended. The incident took place near Bhairab station at around 3 am on Monday (January 26).
According to Bhairab station sources, the Dhaka Mail-2 (Down) train left Dhaka for Chittagong at 12:15 pm yesterday. The train stopped at Bhairab station at 2:15 pm. The train received a signal to leave from Bhairab station. After the train slowly moved 150 meters away, a bogie derailed.
After investigation, it was learned that several mail trains including the Dhaka-bound Antanagar Parabat, Antanagar Upban, Titas Commuter were stranded at various stations in this incident. The Antanagar Bijoy Express from Mymensingh to Chittagong and the Cox’s Bazar Express from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar were stranded at Bhairab station. As a result, thousands of passengers are facing extreme hardship.
Meanwhile, a rescue train arrived from Akhaura four and a half hours after the accident and started the rescue work. Station Master of Bhairab Station Md. Yusuf confirmed the matter. He said at around 8:45 am on Tuesday, ‘The rescue work is underway. It is not possible to say when it will end. Due to the accident, almost all the trains will be delayed for a few hours.’
