A top official of Ukraine’s SBU security service was shot dead in broad daylight in Kiev on Thursday (July 10). The unidentified assailant fled the scene immediately after opening fire. According to a report in Ukrainskaya Pravda, Colonel Ivan Voronych was walking through the Holosiivskyi area of ​​the Ukrainian capital on Thursday morning when a man attacked him at around 9 a.m. local time. CCTV footage shows a masked assailant wearing a black T-shirt and shorts getting out of a car and shooting the 50-year-old colonel at close range with a pistol as he crossed the street. It is believed that five rounds were fired from a silenced weapon. Colonel Voronich was reportedly a senior operative in a division of the SBU’s special operations center dedicated to carrying out attacks in Russia. He died at the scene of the shooting.
