Three vehicles catch fire, 4 were burnt to death.
A gas cylinder explosion in an ambulance that collided with two buses in Savar, near Dhaka, has set three vehicles on fire. Four people in the ambulance were burnt to death in the incident. In addition, at least seven passengers of the bus were injured.
The incident took place at around 2 am on Wednesday in the Police Town area of the Dhaka-Aricha highway. After receiving information, two units of the Fire Service brought the fire under control after an hour of effort.
Among the deceased are two men, a woman and a child. The names of the casualties were not immediately known.
Fire Service control room officer Shihab Sarkar confirmed the matter. He said that an ambulance was hit from behind by two buses. At that time, the gas cylinder of the ambulance exploded and caught fire. Later, the fire spread to the ambulance and two passenger buses. After receiving information, two units of the Fire Service reached the spot at around 2 am and brought the fire under control.
Fire Service officer Alauddin, who was at the scene, said the fire was brought under control around 2:50 am. However, four people in the ambulance died of burns in the incident. Their bodies have been recovered and handed over to the police.
Alauddin also said that the bus passengers got off the bus. Seven injured people have been sent to the hospital. And many of the injured were taken to the hospital by locals.
In-charge of Savar Highway Police Station Saugatul Alam said, “Initially, we have learned about the death of four people in the ambulance. We are trying to find out more details.”
