Three sentenced to death for gang-raping housewife by tying husband to tree in Jamalpur

A court in Jamalpur Sadar has sentenced three people to death for gang-raping their wife by tying her husband to a tree two and a half years ago. In addition, each was fined one lakh taka and one was acquitted. Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of Jamalpur Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-1 gave the verdict on Wednesday (March 11) afternoon.
Azizul Haque’s son Md. Faruk Hossain, Ali Akbar’s son Munsur Ali, and Shafiqul Islam’s son Ferdous Hossain of the same village were sentenced to death. Jamal Uddin’s son Zahidul Islam of the same area was acquitted as the crime was not proven.
In this regard, the state’s prosecutor (PP) Advocate Fazlul Haque said that on the night of July 19, 2023, the accused tied the husband to a tree and gang-raped his wife in the Pakulla area of ​​Sadar Upazila. The day after the incident, the victim filed a case with Sadar Police Station. After recording the testimonies of four witnesses, the court sentenced three of the accused to death and acquitted one in their absence. In addition, each was fined Tk 1 lakh.
