‘Those involved in the Fire conspiracy will not be given any mercy’
A fire broke out at midnight in Building 7 of the Secretariat, the administrative heart of the country. Fire service controlled the fire in the Thursday morning, which is around 6 hours after the fire broke out.
Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, adviser, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the interim government shows his reaction to the incident.
He made this reaction through a status on his Facebook ID this Thursday morning.
Asif Mahmud wrote, ‘We were working on the money laundering and corruption that took place in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives in the past. Evidence of looting of several thousand crores of taka was also found. The extent of the damage caused by the fire is not yet known.
He also wrote, “No one or those involved in this conspiracy to fail us will be spared.”
Finally, the advisor wrote, “I am currently in Nilphamari, returning to Dhaka as soon as possible.”
The fire first broke out in Building No. 7 of the Secretariat on Wednesday night. A unit of the Fire Service deployed at the Secretariat was trying to douse the fire since 1:52 am when the fire first broke out, but with a rise in the intensity of the fire, 18 units reached the spot in stages to douse the fire.
In the meantime, a member of the Fire Service was killed in the incident as a truck ran him over while trying to douse the fire. His name is Sohanuzzaman Nayan.
It is learnt that Sohanuzzaman Nayan was injured while crossing the road to connect the line from the water pump as a truck hit him. Later, he was declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
