‘There is a deliberate attempt to destroy the atmosphere of the national election’

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that after the fascist Hasina fled the country in a bloody mass uprising, a huge opportunity for the people of Bangladesh to rebuild has opened up for them. He said, “Various conspiracies have already started to thwart this opportunity and possibility. There are attempts to destroy the national unity and the environment for the national elections that were successfully built on the blood-soaked streets.”

He made these comments while virtually joining the party’s extended meeting at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at around 11 am today, Thursday.

Tarique Rahman said, “I call on the country’s farmers, workers, people, scholars, ulama, pir mashaykhs, and people of all classes and professions to be vigilant against the conspiracy to destroy national unity and the environment for the national elections. But the conspiracy of those who wanted to make Bangladesh a subservient state has not stopped yet. Reforms or local elections – a kind of smokescreen is being created in front of the people on these issues.

Referring that reform in the state and politics is a continuous process, he said, “The idea of reform is not new to the BNP. BNP has always embraced the aspirations of the people in whatever position it has held in the government or in the opposition. In the context of time, it has always made necessary reforms in the state government and politics and has continued to try to do so.”

However, Tarique Rahman alleged that after seizing power through conspiracy, the absconding dictator closed all avenues for reform. In that situation, Begum Khaleda Zia gave Vision 2030 in 2017 with the aim of qualitative change in the state government and politics. In continuation of this, BNP announced a 27-point program in 2022.

Later, after exchanging views with pro-democracy political parties, a 31-point program was announced. Currently, dialogue with the people across the country is underway on this point at the initiative of BNP, Tarique Rahman added.

He further said, “There is no alternative to the political empowerment of the people for the independence and security of the state. The precondition for ensuring the political empowerment of the people in the state and society is the implementation of the right of every citizen to vote. And for this purpose, BNP as a political party has repeatedly demanded national elections to establish a government accountable to the people through the people’s votes.” At that time, the BNP acting chairman also said that there is no fundamental conflict on many issues with the BNP’s 31-point reform proposal of the current interim government.
