M Sakhawat Hossain said that the use of jute will increase by introducing jute bags in supershops. Even if money is spent on buying jute bags, the marginal jute farmers will get the price of jute.
The advisor said these things in the program titled ‘Encouraging customers to use jute bags instead of polythene’ organized by the Ministry of Textiles and Jute at Unimart Supershop in Gulshan of the capital on Tuesday.
Calling this initiative of the interim government as groundbreaking, Advisor M Sakhawat said, It can be reused.
The use of polythene bags has created a dangerous situation by destroying the natural environment including the river. Everyone’s cooperation is needed to make this landmark initiative of the interim government to ban polythene a success. We have launched this initiative from Supershop. If the demand for jute bags increases, its supply will also increase. We are making eco-friendly golden bags, which will also be marketed in the future.
At this time, the secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Farhina Ahmed called for stopping the use of polythene to protect the environment and said that natural resources belong to all of us. So it is our responsibility to protect this resource.

About several crores of people are involved with jute and multipurpose jute products. The ministry is working with all concerned to make this initiative a success.
Later, Advisor M Sakhawat Hossain distributed jute bags among the customers while visiting both Unimart and Swapna Supershops. At that time, Additional Secretary of Textile and Jute Ministry Taslima Kaniz Nahida, Additional Secretary ANM Moinul Islam, Director General of Jute Directorate Zeenat Ara, President of H&H Foundation M Safak Hossain, Executive Head of Unimart and Swapna Supershop were present.
