‘The reasonable demands have been met, then why the movement?’
The reasonable demands of the railway employees have been met as much as possible, said Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. He said, ‘The reasonable demands of the railway employees have been met as much as possible. Why are they still protesting?’
He raised this question while talking to reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Committee on Government Procurement at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The Finance Advisor said, ‘We have done as much as is necessary for the railway employees for humanitarian reasons. The overtime issue has been resolved. It is not possible to meet the demands beyond this. The economic situation of the country has to be considered.’
Regarding the provision of dearness allowance to government employees, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, ‘Whether it will be given or not; it has not been decided yet. The allowances of those in foreign missions are being increased, it was a decision made long ago.’
The advisor also said that rice and wheat stocks should be ensured so that there is no shortage of daily necessities during Ramadan.
