BNP-Jamaat will be together in the movement to restore democracy.
BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has commented that BNP-Jamaat will be together in the movement to restore democracy. He made the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting with leaders of like-minded alliances at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, the capital, on Friday afternoon.
In response to a question on whether BNP would take any initiative to reduce the distance with Jamaat, Nazrul Islam Khan said, “There is no such distance. They also want democracy, they want elections. We also talk about human rights, but if someone says that only they are patriotic, then we will feel pain. We will say, brother, that is not right. We are all patriotic. I fought the Liberation War, and then if you say that only you are patriotic, your other friend is patriotic. Then you have left me out. That is something that should be painful. We hope that no one says such things.”
He said, “We were not in a formal simultaneous movement with Jamaat. Their program was not the same as our program, but they were in the movement. Surely, we will all be in the movement to restore democracy in the coming days, they will also be there. There is no confusion about this.’
Among others, the meeting was attended by BNP Standing Committee Member Selima Rahman, JAGPA President Khandaker Lutfar Rahman, Gano Dal Chairman ATM Golam Maula Chowdhury, Bangladesh NAP Chairman MN Shaon Sadeki, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Syed Nurul Islam, NDP Chairman Abu Taher, Bangladesh Muslim League President Nasim Khan, Democratic League (DL) General Secretary Khokon Chandra Das and Jatiyatabadi Ganotantrik Party President SM Shahadat.
