‘The fascist regime survived through the judiciary’ – Mahmudur Rahman’s comments

Mahmudur Rahman, editor of the daily Amar Desh, said that the main supporting force of the past fascist ruler was not bureaucracy, but the judiciary. He described this as the ‘unique character of this Hasina’s fascism’. He said this as the chief guest at a discussion titled ‘Shapla to July Mass Uprising’ organized by the Munshiganj Government Harganga College in the seminar room of the college on Sunday (August 3) afternoon. Mahmudur Rahman said that fascists were created and the main statements of fascists were made through the courts. Explaining, he said that martyred President Ziaur Rahman cannot be called a proclaimer of independence – this statement was made by the courts. He also said that fascist rulers usually want to turn neighboring countries into colonies. But the previous government, in order to stay in power, instead replaced Bangladesh as a colony near Delhi. Mahmudur Rahman said, the fascist forces are able to dream of returning again due to the lack of political unity. If unity had been maintained like in July, the fascist forces would not have dared to dream this dream. Regarding Sheikh Hasina, he said, she will not be able to return to the country. She will return on the day when we can force India. She can only return to Bangladesh to face justice,” added Mahmudur Rahman. The discussion meeting was chaired by the college principal, Professor Nazmun Nahar, and was also attended by the college’s assistant professors Shafiq Islam, Jaglul Asad, Abdul Mannan and Yunus Hossain, a student of the college who was injured in the mass uprising.
