The country’s interests were not protected in the agreement with Adani – Dr. Fahmida Khatun.
The country’s interests were not protected in the power import agreement with Adani, said Dr. Fahmida Khatun, executive director of the private research institute Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD). She made this comment as the chief guest in the shadow parliament titled ‘Lack of good governance in the financial sector is a major challenge in preventing corruption’ organized by Debate for Democracy at the FDC in the capital on Sunday.
Dr. Fahmida also said that although relations with India are strained, there will be no major difficulties in trade. If necessary, we will have to take initiatives to purchase products from alternative countries. The power import agreement with Adani has been controversial and unilateral. This agreement has been made by bypassing the people. Bangladesh’s interests have not been protected here.’
The CPD executive director said that to protect the interests of depositors, Bangladesh Bank printed money and gave it to weak banks considering the emergency situation. This money cannot be used for loans or business purposes in any way. According to the existing rules of Bangladesh Bank, no current or former government official can be the Governor or Deputy Governor. Even then, we have seen that bureaucrats have been appointed there to implement dishonest intentions. We need to get out of the culture of getting away with committing crimes.
The event was presided over by Debate for Democracy Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron. The debaters of Southeast University emerged victorious by defeating the debaters of Bangladesh Textile University in the shadow parliament. The judges of the competition were Professor Abu Muhammad Rais, Professor Dr. Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, journalist Md. Touhidul Islam, journalist Zakir Hossain and journalist Daulat Akhter Mala. At the end of the competition, the participating teams were awarded trophies, crests and certificates.
