The cost of printing and distributing money is 20,000 crores every year: Governor

About 20,000 crore taka is being spent annually on printing and distributing money, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H Mansur. He said this at a panel discussion of the ‘Cashless Bangladesh Summit 2025’ organized at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (August 27). The governor said that the demand for cash in the country is increasing by about 10 percent every year. About 20,000 crore taka is being spent annually on printing and distributing money to meet this demand. Stating that five new digital bank licenses will be issued, he also said that agent banking activities must be completely digital. Regarding Nagad, Ahsan H Mansur said that new investors are being sought for the MFS institution ‘Nagad’. The matter of seeking investors will be announced through an advertisement next week. The responsibility of ‘Nagad’ will be handed over to the new investor institution within the next three to four months.
