    The cause of the South Korean plane crash has finally been identified.

    The cause of the plane crash carrying 181 passengers that took place at Muan International Airport in the East Asian country of South Korea has come out. The fire officials in the country are pointing their fingers towards the malfunction of the landing gear as the main cause of the accident. They said that the accident might have taken place because of the collision with a bird and it tangled the landing gear.

    The head of the country’s local fire department, Lee Jeong-hyun, told a news conference, “The cause of the accident is believed to be a bird strike or bad weather. The exact cause will be announced later through a joint investigation with the relevant agencies.”

    This was revealed from the report by the local news agency Yonhap. The report said 179 of the 181 passengers died in the passenger plane crash at Muan International Airport. Two were rescued alive in the incident. The accident occurred at around 9 am local time on Sunday.

    The report further stated that the Jeju Air plane, carrying 181 passengers and crew members, had skidded off the runway and hit the boundary wall of the airport while landing from Bangkok in Thailand at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The impact was such that the plane caught fire. There were 175 passengers and six crew members on board.

    A video footage of the crash has gone viral on social media. The Boeing 737-8AS model is seen in the video speeding down the runway as it lands, before suddenly catching fire.

    A video footage by the Korean broadcaster MBC, smoke was seen to pour out of the plane’s engine after touching down on the runway at Muan Airport; the smoke can be observed coming out just before the whole plane bursts into flames.

    The spokesperson further added that rescue operation works were in progress at the tail end of the crashed airplane.

    Meanwhile, South Korean acting President Choi Sang-moo ordered “all-out efforts for rescue operations” after the crash in the city of Muan. He also called an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the ongoing rescue efforts, Yonhap reported.
