The call that Shibir made to the Chhatra Dal
Islami Chhatra Shibir has called on Chhatra Dal to learn from the past and return to the path of constructive student politics. At the same time, this student organization has also said that it does not consider Chhatra Dal as an enemy.
In a status posted on Chhatra Shibir’s official Facebook page at 11:12 pm on Tuesday, Islami Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam made such a call to Chhatra Dal.
He made this call focusing on the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) clash.
In the status, Zahidul Islam said, “We do not consider Chhatra Dal as an enemy. Our fight is against fascism. We have tried to convince them many times, directly or through tactics – ‘Let’s learn from the past and return to the path of constructive student politics’. But the friendly organization is not responding to our call and is moving forward on the advice of past fascists and their Shahbagi friends. The reflection of which was proven in KUET today. What is the difference between today’s incident and the activities of Chhatra League in July-August?’
He said, ‘I repeat, we are not your enemies. We do not hesitate to acknowledge your sacrifices (whether small or large) in the past. But you are walking in the opposite direction as before. Avoid the attitude of occupation and return to the trend of education and service-oriented student politics. Play your role in the light of your ability in building a new Bangladesh.’
Expressing the hope that the Chhatra Dal will emerge with good sense, he further said, ‘Those who are moving forward on the advice of those who have made Chhatra League suffer the same fate, you too will not suffer the same fate. May good sense emerge – this is my wish. Otherwise, we will have to take responsibility for all the failures and consequences ourselves. The politics of imposing responsibility does not work now. This generation is aware enough.’
In a request to the Chhatra Dal, the President of Chhatra Shibir said, ‘Do not consider the generosity of Chhatra Shibir as weakness. Chhatra Shibir does not worship any person or party. As a servant of one God, we bow our heads only to the Lord.’
Earlier, on Tuesday, there was a clash between Chhatra Dal and students at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) demanding an end to student politics. Later, BNP leaders and activists joined Chhatra Dal and students, along with the leaders and activists of the Student Movement Against Discrimination and Chhatra Shibir. At least 50 people from both sides were injured in the clash.
