Thailand launches new attack on Cambodia

Thailand has launched a new attack on Cambodia. The country said the attack was carried out to ‘reclaim its territory’. Al Jazeera reported that clashes were ongoing between the armies of the two countries on the border as of Sunday (December 14). Earlier, Cambodia announced the closure of all border crossings with Thailand. The two countries share an 800-kilometer-long border. The two countries have been in conflict over this border, which was divided during the colonial period. They claim some areas of the border as their own.
The new clashes have so far killed 25 people. Among them are soldiers and civilians. Local media outlet Mathichon Online quoted Thai Navy spokesman Rear Admiral Parakh Rattanachaiyapan as saying that they have launched a new military operation to reclaim their territory near Trat province. The naval officer said the operation, which began at dawn, was accompanied by intense clashes and new attacks in self-defense and in accordance with international law to protect territorial integrity.
The Thai military said it had repelled the enemy and recaptured the area. The country’s state television Thai PBS also reported that troops had evacuated Cambodian troops from the attack site and raised the Thai flag there. Another Thai media outlet, TV3, reported that the army, navy and air force had launched a joint operation along the border since dawn today. It was not yet known how many people were killed in the latest clashes. Cambodians reported on social media that Thailand had shelled their border area in the Thamar Da area of ​​Pursat province.
