Testimony ends in corruption case against Hasina and 12 others
The court has declared the end of the testimony in the case filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 12 others on charges of abusing power to allocate 10 kathas of government land for the Purbachal New Town project. 29 people have testified in the court in this case.
Today, Monday (November 10), in the court of Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-5, the investigating officer of the case, Afnan Jannat Keya, was questioned by Shaheen Ur Rahman, the lawyer of accused Khurshid Alam. As the interrogation of the investigating officer has ended, the court has fixed November 17 as the date for the defendants to present their defense as per the law. ACC Public Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi confirmed the matter to the media.
On January 14, ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin filed a case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and eight others as the plaintiff on charges of abusing power to obtain a 10 katha government plot for the Purbachal New City project. After the investigation, the investigating officer of the case, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya, filed a charge sheet against 12 people in the court on March 10. Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the other accused in the case are Purbi Golder, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works, former RAJUK Chairman Md. Anisur Rahman Miah’s personal assistant, former RAJUK members Shafi ul Haque, Khurshid Alam, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (Engineer) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (retd.), Deputy Director Nayeb Ali Sharif, Administrative Officer of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works Md. Saiful Islam Sarkar, Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin, Secretary Shahid Ullah Khandaker and former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed.
